Travel Study At AACC

A travel-study course is an organized course of study, approved by the college, taught primarily in a remote location by a college faculty member who is an expert in the field. A travel-study course requires the same amount of instructional time, student work, and testing per credit hour as a traditional course. Travel-study courses are appropriate when the setting is directly related to the content of the course and when they provide the student with learning opportunities that are not available on campus.

About Travel Study

Most of the travel-study courses at AACC are "travel-study abroad" courses. More than 250,000 American college students annually participate in some form of study abroad programs. The numbers have become so large that study abroad is now a major component of the college experience.

Benefits

Benefits of study abroad range widely as each students takes away something unique from his/her experiences. Study abroad will enhance what you learn on campus by giving you an international perspective. What better way:

  • to learn Italian than to study it in Italy;
  • to learn about the Protestant Reformation than experiencing Luther's Germany firsthand;
  • to appreciate the artistic achievements of the Renaissance than see them up close;
  • to understand the medieval folklore and culture of England than to travel to the very places where it happened;
  • to learn Italian cuisine than to actually work along side an Italian chef in Italy!

With any study abroad program you will learn to handle new situations; you will become more flexible and adaptable. Many students return from their travels relaying that they had come back a different person.

One of the major competencies that all AACC students are encouraged to develop is a "global prospective." Employers today are asking for people who are globally competent. Study abroad will give the student this very experience.
