Architecture and Interior Design Travel Study

The Department features two unique travel study courses, ACH 260-The Chicago Frank Lloyd Wright Experience and ACH 261 Paris by Design: Classic to Contemporary. Both are open courses for majors and non-majors of our program. There are no prerequisites and the courses can be taken for noncredit.

Travel study in architecture and interior design is critical as seeing a structure and experiencing the spaces within its walls first-hand is a learning experience that cannot be replicated in the classroom. Transfer universities promote travel study as they agree you have to see design to truly appreciate the genius of what was created.

These courses are a must for anyone studying architecture and interior design and a wonderful experience for anyone interested in great works of design and the magnificent cities of Paris and Chicago. Credits may transfer and are usually less than you would pay at the university, including the travel costs; but go for the fun of learning!

The Sears Tower Skydeck is 1431 feet high, tallest occupiable floor in the world!
The 1,024 foot high tower allows you to see Paris from 906 feet above the ground!

ACH 260-The Chicago Frank Lloyd Wright Experience is a special three-credit course that you can take that focuses on the work of notable architect Frank Lloyd Wright and Chicago architecture. Chicago is known world-wide as one of America’s best cities for architecture and design. In addition to some of Wright’s most famous work, you will see outstanding examples of international, modern and cutting edge architecture in Chicago, Racine and Milwaukee. Learn by seeing these works first-hand and have fun staying in downtown Chicago’s prestigious “Magnificent Mile.”

ACH 261 Paris by Design: Classic to Contemporary focuses on French architecture in one of Europe’s most innovative cities, Paris. Immerse yourself in one of the world’s most exciting cultures and experience world famous architecture and design firsthand. Includes site tours and in person observations to provide an understanding of Paris’s magnificent designs. Students will experience architecture from several time periods that have influenced design throughout the world. Representative projects include chateaus, monuments, outdoor spaces, museums, civic and religious buildings, along with other historic and contemporary structures. Includes a review of the architectural design, styles and urban context of Paris.
